Designing in 2D

Working in 2-dimensions is an important tool for any designer. It is where an eye for composition is developed and pure creative freedom can be expressed.

Design is a process.

I often use an iterative process when developing my designs, especially in 2-dimensions. I break down the composition into a step-by-step process, making multiple versions of each step and only moving forward with the ones I find most visually appealing and engaging. The images below outline this process of using gradual addition to make a refined design; for each of the first three images there were several other versions that got thrown away.
